Based on the Layman model, the Layman Hunter has less of a spearpoint tip. It also has a little more belly on the edge of the blade. These changes make it better suited for skinning and meat processing.
PSF27 steel is a “spray form” version of D2 tool steel. This process makes PSF27 much tougher than D2, because it has more uniform carbides than D2’s cast method of production. This uniformity offers the improved strength without sacrificing edge retention compared to D2. PSF27 is also less “chippy” than standard D2. PSF27 also contains 12% chromium, while not a true “stainless steel”, does make it very stain resistant. So you get D2 steel in a form that is tougher, holds a ridiculously sharp edge, and is more stain resistant.
